The Wave Series is a 2-sensor prism line scan camera designed for Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) imaging in industrial machine vision applications.

The camera uses Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs) sensors combined with prism-based optical technology to deliver simultaneous dual-band imaging in the SWIR spectrum (900–1700 nm), enabling detection of features not visible in standard visible or near-infrared imaging.

Key technical specifications

  • 2 × 1024 active pixels (dual-sensor configuration)
  • SWIR wavelength range: 900–1700 nm
  • Line rate: up to 39 kHz (39,230 lines/second)
  • Pixel size: 25 μm × 25 μm

Key capability: Provides additional “hidden” imaging information for automated inspection by capturing material characteristics beyond the visible and NIR spectrum.

The Sweep+ Series consists of 3-sensor (RGB) and 4-sensor (RGB + NIR or RGB + SWIR) prism-based line scan cameras designed for industrial machine vision and high-speed inspection.

The cameras use dichroic beam-splitter prism technology to align multiple CMOS sensors to a single optical path, ensuring precise channel alignment and eliminating spatial offset issues common in trilinear cameras. This makes them well suited for belt sorting and free-fall inspection, where object speed and direction may vary.

Key technical features

  • 3-sensor RGB or 4-sensor RGB + NIR / RGB + SWIR multispectral imaging
  • Prism-based optical system with a single optical plane
  • Simultaneous image capture across multiple spectral bands
  • Improved light transmission, reducing illumination requirements
  • Eliminates halo effects and alignment issues when inspecting uneven or cylindrical objects

Typical applications: high-speed web inspection (paper, plastic, textiles, film), print inspection, food processing, and industrial sorting systems.

The JAI Sweep Series is a range of high-performance line scan cameras designed for demanding industrial imaging applications such as inspection, sorting, and web inspection. Multispectral cameras customized to your application requirements.

JAI’s innovative Flex-Eye technology lets you design the perfect multispectral camera to meet the needs of your imaging system. Flex-Eye combines JAI´s Fusion Series of prism-based multispectral area scan cameras with a custom design process where you specify the number of wavebands, the sensor resolution, and the ideal spectral range for each channel in your multispectral camera.

How it works(Customization Process – JAI Flex-Eye Technology)

  1. Select camera configuration – Use the online configurator to choose the number of sensors, resolution, and sensor type (Bayer color or monochrome for the visible spectrum).
  2. Define spectral wavebands – Use the interactive spectral chart GUI to drag and position wavebands at the desired wavelengths and bandwidths, configurable from 405–1000 nm with widths as narrow as 25 nm.
  3. Submit configuration for review – Send the configuration to JAI for technical feasibility evaluation.
  4. Specification confirmation – If feasible, JAI confirms the design, assigns a custom product number, and discusses any additional requirements before the purchase order is finalized.

The Sony IMX273 CMOS Sensor (1.6 MP per waveband) and Sony IMX252 CMOS Sensor (3.2 MP per waveband) provide high image quality and fast frame rates, supporting up to three simultaneous wavebands at full resolution. A Bayer sensor option in the visible spectrum can also be used for interpolation or additional spectral data extraction during post-processing.

Prism cutaway

JAI’s prism technology splits incoming light into multiple sensors through a single optical path, ensuring simultaneous capture and precise pixel alignment across all wavebands, eliminating the need for software-based alignment. 10 GigE multi-stream interfaces allow independent or combined analysis of each waveband, with auto-negotiation to adjust to slower network speeds when required.

JAI’s Fusion Series of multispectral prism cameras provide simultaneous images of multiple wavebands through a single optical path. The cameras split incoming light into two or three separate sensors with precise pixel-to-pixel alignment regardless of motion or viewing angle.

Fusion Series cameras are ideal for life sciences or surgical applications using NIR fluorescence; for intelligent farming techniques such as NDVI/NDRE vegetation analysis or autonomous weed removal systems; for fruit, vegetable, and other types of food sorting or inspection; for electronics/PCB inspection; and much more.

You can choose from several standard models with predefined configurations of visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavebands, or you can use JAI’s innovative Flex-Eye technology to design your own configuration with two or three custom wavebands perfectly tailored to your application requirements.
